For the first time since its publication in 1783, Sweden’s national poet Carl Michael Bellman’s only stage work, the musical play Bacchi Tempel, is performed – on Sweden’s National Day 6 June! Through source-critical research, directed by Patrik Sörling and with adapted instrumentation by Jonas Dominique, EARLY MUSIC SWEDEN revives a unique work in the history of Swedish performing arts.
In Bacchi Tempel we encounter Bellman’s well-known characters – Ulla Winblad, Fredman, Mollberg and Movitz – in an imaginative story filled with festivities, rituals and burlesque humour. The production is a special Early Stage project within the Stockholm Early Music Festival and offers audiences a rare opportunity to discover Bellman as a creator of music theatre. The accomplished soloists Staffan Liljas and Martin Vanberg perform the leading roles and the instrumental ensemble is led by Elin Gabrielsson.
In Swedish.
